Allicin powder is showing great results in fly control

01 March 2023

Blue Ribbon Stockfeed have started some trials of adding Allicin powder to some of the loose licks. This feed additive has proved very successful within the dairy industry in the deterrence of fly.
Allicin is a natural compound. When ingested by livestock allicin is excreted through the animal’s breath and skin, assisting in the reduction of fly, tick and lice
Flies can irritate cattle, interrupt their feeding and cause skin irritation, especially when infestations are high. This can cause a decrease in the productivity and performance of the animal. We are unable to add this powder to the pellets as it is not able to withstand heat. In the future we may be able to find a way to add to pelletized feeds.
Studies have shown that allicin also has strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. Allicin has also recognized to have an increased effect on gastric juice secretion and gastrointestinal motility, stimulating appetite and promoting digestion.
Allicin can be added to loose licks for a small inclusion price of around $15 per tonne.
